Welcome to Friday Fictioneers brought to you by the eloquent Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. The premise is to use 100 words or less to write a Flash Fiction piece based off of inspiration of the weekly photo.
My submission is below. All constructive criticism welcome.

A History Lesson
“Mom, this is truly boring.”
“No, it’s important you understand what was lost.”
“What does it matter? That was forever ago and what does that have to do with me? Landis has everything we need. We don’t need ‘OCans’ and all that other weird stuff anymore.”
“Oceans. But you don’t understand they used to be able to w…”
“Mom seriously, it’s ancient and I don’t care what was. I want to back to the arcade then the gift shop.”
They wheel out of the exhibit merging into the sea of personal automovers and veer right towards the gift shop.

As Always,
Woman on Pause
I really hope the next generation learn from our mistakes and value the world, and the Ocans, much more than we have. Good take 🙂
Thanks so much! And me too.
Very well-written & too often too true.
Thank you so much for saying so.
A dystopian world, this world of gift shops and automovers.
Let’s hope it’s fiction!
It’s just like today: history doesn’t really mean as much as it used to.
Like the futuristic theme – and curious as to what those movers are like –
😊
And you asked for any cc-
The first few lines I had to go back and read a few times to figure out who was talking – maybe a space between character sections would help (or not – could just me me right now – cos it is late)
Thanks so much for the feedback. I mulled over the dialogue part for quite some time. Glad to know how others perceived it. Thank you!
😊
At one time such a concept would have been incredible. Now it’s just depressingly ominous. Well done.
Thank you.
Generation gap!
Dear W_O_P,
I hope you haven’t written our future. I fear that it’s not far from the truth. And the child’s disinterest worries me. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback.
Regardless of what terrible things happen to our world, there’ll always be a gift shop waiting to cash in…
If we have nothing else to hang our hats on…
Nice one. The dystopian future is looking more and more believable each year.
Right?!?! And Thank you!
I really liked the child, squirming away from anything educational at all times haha. Reminds me of myself when I was a little one. That being said- I’ll make sure my kid knows what the oceans were like.
Great post
Thank you so much!
Great stuff, the Ocans are now full of until recently unnoticed micro plastics, lets hope its not too late
That’s the hope!
Grown ups look to the past, and regret what they’ve lost, and that’s almost inevitable. Kids look only to the future, and that’s as it should be, for they will have to shape it and live with it. Good story. Pity about the OCans…
Thank you so much!
Nice one. I always like a story told with dialogue. And you’re probably right in assuming that no matter what else changes in the future, there will always be gift shops!
Thanks so much.
Well done, WoP… scary potential future.
By the way… I want to GO back to… (bring you up to 100 😉 )
Thank you so much for the feedback!
That’s the sad truth! 😦
Nicely done!
Thank you so much!
most welcome! 🙂
It would be so sad, it the Ocans disappear
I’m trying to imagine Earth with no oceans. We’d be like the other planets–arid, hot, lifeless. Of course, that’s reality. Your imagination created quite a different scene, Even after everything has changed, human nature remains the same 🙂
So depressing, made more so by the thought it could come to pass. Nicely done.
Thank you so much!
